The Starink Toner Troubleshooting Guide is here to help! See how to handle the most common toner problems.

The printer cover/door will not close

Solution: You probably haven't installed the toner cartridges correctly. Remove and reinstall them, making sure they all click into place as they should. This is a fairly simple fix for a toner error.

When installing or removing toner cartridges, it's important to follow the correct procedure to avoid problems with your printer.

If your laser printer door still won't close after reinstalling the cartridge, double-check that you have the correct cartridge for your printer.

When replacing the toner cartridge, we recommend using a Starink cartridge to ensure the best quality and compatibility with your printer. Starink cartridges are designed specifically for your printer model and are backed by the manufacturer's warranty.

The toner runs out very quickly.

Solution: If you are unsure if the warning is accurate, you can remove the toner cartridge and gently shake it to see if it is indeed low.

Sometimes, toner can stick to the sides of the cartridge, and shaking it will distribute the toner more evenly and possibly remove the low warning.

If your toner usage is really low and you are frustrated by how quickly it runs out, consider investing in high-yield toner.

These cartridges hold more toner and last longer with higher page yields.

Print stains

If you are experiencing print quality issues, such as blurring, streaking, or fading, they may be caused by a printer or toner malfunction.

Here are some possible solutions for print quality problems:

Blurring, Smudges, and Streaks - These issues can be caused by a defective toner cartridge or a toner cartridge that is not installed properly.

To fix toner streaks, first, print several blank pages to see if that fixes the print quality. Then, try cleaning the internal components of the printer, such as the laser scanner/mirrors.

If that does not work, reinstall the toner cartridge.

If the problem persists, the toner cartridge may be defective and will need to be replaced.

These issues can also be caused by a defective drum unit. If reinstalling/replacing the toner cartridge is unsuccessful, replace the drum unit next.

Fading - When a toner cartridge is low on toner, fading often occurs. If this is the case, simply replace the toner cartridge and your prints will no longer have problems with the printer's toner.

If your printer is not low on toner and your prints are still fading, it may be due to a problem with the transfer roller or a laser mirror that needs to be cleaned.

Blank Spots - Blank spots can be caused by a defective toner cartridge or other problems with the printer, possibly a damaged transfer roller.

If possible, inspect the inside of the printer for any visible obstructions.

If there are none, replace the toner cartridge and see if that removes the blank spots. If it does not, replace the transfer roller and see if that removes them.

Half-page prints

Half-page prints can be caused by a number of issues, including problems with paper alignment in the paper tray, a malfunctioning toner cartridge, or a defective drum unit.

Start by checking the paper guides in the tray to make sure they are adjusted correctly. If the guides are not the problem, disconnect and restart your printer and computer, then print a test page to see if the problem is resolved.

If the issue persists, check for error messages that could help identify the cause of the problem. If no error message appears, the toner cartridge may need to be replaced.
